What We Do

The Artists Recording Collective (ARC) was co-founded on December 7, 2007 by alto saxophonist, CHRIS BURNETT; tenor saxophonist, ERICA LINDSAY; and, pianist, SUMI TONOOKA as a professional response to an inherent void within the music industry then.

Specifically, the co-founders endeavored to create and maintain a modern recording label brand to serve as a platform to promote and release the projects and recordings produced by professional artists and composers.  As experienced professionals in the field who also engage the new paradigm of the 21st Century music industry, their goal remains for the company to objectively and effectively serve as a platform for creative artists, producers and labels – like themselves.

Today, the Artists Recording Collective (ARC), is an independent label and established music brand name that is powered by the idea that artists need a home base for all of their music and activities.  Association with the ARC brand serves to continually enhance the profile of member artists and labels on both, national and international levels.  ARC primarily does this by making effective and efficient use of most all relevant professional resources that are available to publicly introduce recording artists and musicians working in our innovative times.  Following is a general overview of what we do…

UNIQUE BUSINESS MODEL AND ARTIST-CENTERED PARADIGM

The ARC platform is based upon a viable new business model that Chris Burnett has inherently developed specifically over the past several years and from lessons learned through personal hands-on experiences of actually working in the field of Online Music Distribution since 1994.  Burnett’s first involvements were with MIDI music networks and later expanded when he began promoting his music at the first MP3 music sites in the mid-1990s through the end of that pioneering era back in December of 2003.

ARC is specifically well suited to artists who are seeking to release a brand new product or already have their own recorded product(s) to promote.  In this capacity, ARC serves members as a formidable platform to market our work collectively.  Although ARC also has the ability to serve our members as a professional record label, our business model and motivation is totally different and unique from those independent labels who essentially are set up to operate much like the majors do under the old music industry paradigm. The primary mission purpose of ARC is centered upon continuous artist development of our members through constant publicity and promotion of the ARC brand.  Our unique and modern approach effectively serves a relatively broad (but, select) demographic that ranges from the brilliant new talent to those established masters on the ARC artist roster.  We simply include essential professional record label services as part of our unique platform…

  • ABOUT SUBMISSIONS AND FUNDING

Artists and Labels interested in ARC membership should read our Artist and Label Submission Guidelines prior to contacting us about submitting materials. Legal restrictions require that we not entertain unsolicited materials outside of our stated guidelines. So, please read the guidelines before contacting us.

Please note that all of our members are producers – meaning that each member finances their own initiatives and projects. ARC does not fund projects as record labels do under the old music industry model. Doing so would mean that ARC would inherently own all or part of the product. That’s not what we were founded to do…

We believe that artists should own their work!

If you need funding, there are numerous sources for financing, including private investors. Two examples of the numerous variations on the fan-funding model can be found at ARC official partner: RocketHub.com and the independently initiated fan funding site VirtualJazzCD.com.
