We are very pleased to announce that ARC member Gene Perla’s GO Trio is listed among the Professional performers and ensembles that will appear at the Inaugural Jazz Education Network (JEN) Conference in St. Louis, MO.
Anchored by bassist Gene Perla (Chick Corea, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Woody Herman, Elvin Jones, Chuck Mangione, Joni Mitchell, Buddy Rich, Sonny Rollins, Nina Simone, Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, Nancy Wilson, and others), GO TRIO is a new jazz group dedicated to the performance of jazz standards, the Great American Songbook, and a growing body of original music. Pianist Sean Gough and drummer Josh Brown round out a trio that exemplifies the concept of collective improvisation.
Even as they mine the most familiar tunes, each musician’s effortless attentiveness to the other guarantees a vital and spontaneous approach to music. In their short history, GO TRIO has secured multiple performances at leading jazz venues (Deer Head Inn, Chris’ Jazz Cafe, Trumpets, Twins, Lafayette Bar), establishments featuring jazz (Allentown Art Museum, Sands Casino, Porter’s Pub, Starfish Brasserie, Shula’s Steakhouse), and music festivals (Musikfest, Lafayette College, LPGA).

Sean, finishing up his first semester in his quest to achieve a masters degree at Rutgers University, has been busy checking out the scene in New York City, preparing a CD of solo improvisations for release, and recording with the trio Ojespa Jazz Project.
It’s been a busy holiday season for Gene, who’s went to Mexico to tour for a month, but is now back home and playing with the trio. Mexico projects included Fine Wine Trio, and SoberSong. He’s also started teaching his music business courses and private lessons at Lehigh and The New School Universities.
The group will start their 2010 performance schedule with their second appearance at Trumpets Jazz Club in Montclair, New Jersey. Joining Sean and Gene on drums will be Paul Wells, who played with the Go Trio a couple of times in late ’09.
Hopefully, in the spring, one of the trio’s favorite singers will fly in from Paris to do a few gigs with the Go Trio in the New York area. Viktorija Gecyte is a soulful vocalist who always knocks the crowds out. Stay tuned!
Then, during the first four days of July, Sean and Gene will fly to San Antonio to play with vocalist/drummer Bobby Kapp for his newest project,SoberSong. They will perform music that focuses on various forms of addiction, recovery, and wellness.
Also on the agenda is a mid-west tour reaching as far as St Louis, where the group will perform at the first Jazz Education Network (JEN) Conference. They are currently in the process of booking the driving tour that will take them to Chicago and many other cities along the way.
Another tour is being booked for mid-Jun, where Sean and Gene expect to be playing with drummer Ben Riley who hails from Toronto. Not to be confused with the other Ben Riley (who used to play with Monk), this Ben is the son of one of Canada’s most famous musicians, Doug Riley, known to many as Dr. Music. The trio will visit Toronto and Montreal, among other stops.
Further into the future, a European trip is expected, which will put Sean and Gene together with Danish drummer Christian Winfeld.
